want.

Ever notice? It's absence that threatens to do us the most harm:

Food.
Clothes.
Shelter.
Money.
Peace.
Reason.

Love.

  1. Economics is defined as the science of scarcity or want. Oikos + nomos means the law or school of thought concerning households.

Absence is also the presence of the absence. Dangerous presences also threaten us: bullets, knives, cars, hard surfaces, diseases, cancers, gravity, hate, etc.

  2. So true. And I would add health to the list. Something that I now realize I have often taken for granted.

  3. wait a minute! wasn't there a post after this earlier today? am I losing it?

It's like how when you have a stomach ache, all you can think of is how great it was when you didn't have one and how maybe you should notice that feeling more.
