  1. Um, this wasn't in your room, was it? Because I think I would have to sleep in my car if that dude was glaring at me all night long.

  2. I was thinking the same thing. Surely this was in the lobby, no? I suspect the portrait was done about the same time the motor lodge was built - back in the 60s?

  3. Proving once again (as if you needed proof) that there's nothing like a motor lodge ;-)

  4. you guys are cracking me up -- I'm tempted to let this thread run its course and not intervene...

this *is* in fact a lobby, but it's the lobby of the Duke of York Motor Inn -- not the Yorktown Motorlodge as I think you might be thinking HL. ;)

the UPS guy told us they have the best breakfast in town (one of my travel strategies when I'm trying to find a place to nosh on the road is 1) check for local license plates and/or 2) ask someone who looks like they spend a lot of time around there).

It was definitely old school, with a side of grits and the best bacon ever. (and I suspect the pancakes were grilled in crisco instead of butter -- which is nothing to sneeze at if you've never tried it.) ;)

  5. Do you know who the guy is? It's really alarming. The Duke of York perhaps?

  6. lol -- I agree -- I actually posted this pic on flickr via cameraphone upload as "the duke of york(town)".

I'm guessing he's the original proprietor of the motor inn -- I regret that I didn't get a shot of the woman in pearls to his right -- I'm pretty sure she was his wife -- done up in the same style.
