speaking of visual music

Painting is a music you can see; and music is a painting you can hear.

Jazzman and visual artist Miles Davis, as quoted by a fellow who used to play with him, on the Chicago radio show 848 this morning.

In some wanky documentary on Miles, filled with people telling us what an incredible genius he was

("it was like he was just coming from some whole other level of music" "Miles really came at the music sideways, and he was this great guy who, once you got to know him, really was just incredibly" "Miles was just absolutely godlike in his divine Olympian, elysium-like sound of wonderful cornucopian genius bla bla")

and then in the middle of everything this tuba/trombone player named Johnson who Miles used to work with in the 60's came on and said "Miles? He was just a total asshole. Great player, though. But: Total. Asshole." I loved that.

I came across a book of his paintings once and I've always been sad I didn't buy it.
