an eye for color

a found poem

in visual perception
it is necessary to recognize

that color deceives continually

one and the same color
evokes innumerable readings

the aim is to develop
(by trial and error)

an eye for color

seeing color action
feeling color relatedness

just as the knowledge
of acoustics

does not make one musical

what counts here
first and last
is vision

Seeing.

this way of searching
will lead to an awareness
of interdependence
with form and placement

of quantity
quality
and pronouncement

Cobbled together from the Introduction of the Josef Albers classic: Interaction of Color (with liberal editing)
