Being stuck in Midtown due to a flight cancellation meant that I made the Rose Main Reading Room at the NY Public Library my office this morning.

Pure blue heaven.

Only something like lunch with the inimitable jkonig was strong enough to drag me away from that place.

Now to Newark to catch my flight.
Wish me luck and clear skies.

When I was attending college in Boston, there was an ancient periodicals room in the old half of the Boston Public Library that was so quiet, with dark wood and green lamp shades. To get to it, I had to cross through a courtyard garden and navigate narrow, ornate stairways that were built for people of another age entirely. The journey to it, and the light, and the dusty smell, all made it seem like I'd absented myself entirely from the world outside.

That and the boddhisatvas room at the Boston MFA were my all-time favorite places to read.

Visiting the NY library's Reading Room is on top of my list of things to do once I'm back in NY. Speaking of which, next time you're stuck in Midtown or just wandering the streets of NY, be sure to give me a call. I may not be as inimitable, but I have one or two endearing qualities still in me... ;-).. I move to NY on July 3rd.
