ava

a found poem

Her beauty distracted others
It was an invitation
A property that never seemed
Her own possession

It might be lost through accident
It made men act crazily
It made people forgive her

It was something that age would take
That she could ruin
Above all

It made her lonely

Found in « I’m not an actress », Michael Newton’s review of Lee Server’s new biography, Ava Gardner in the 7 September 2006 issue of the London Review of Books
