They seemed to expire all at once
As I moved from room to room
Each bulb
Giving up one last shock of fire
As I flipped the switch
Like notes not knowing
They share the same score
(The shadows are longer now
The days grow brief)
It made me think that
Leaves
Must drop all together
So as not to die
From loneliness
