Undergrad John Spradling commenting on the polar bear who has become the icon for energy use in the Dartmouth dormitories, as reported in the Union Leader.
"The animated creature displayed on a hallway monitor is part of a pilot project to measure the real-time energy usage on four floors of Dartmouth's newest dormitory cluster."
The animation responds to power draws in real time -- as power usage escalates throughout the day, the ice cracks and, if usage isn't reined in, the polar bear perishes.
