When not carving letters or at his devotions, the randy inventor of Gill Sans and Perpetua entertained himself -- sultan-like -- by rogering his wife, sisters, daughters, disciples (male and female), and the long-suffering family dog.
Stanford English professor Terry Castle blurbing on Fiona MacCarthy's book "Eric Gill: A Lover's Quest for Art and God in the March issue of the Atlantic Monthly.
Apologies to all who may not have wanted to know this unsavory fact about Mr. Gill, "the greatest British type designer of the twentieth century."
I'm wondering if I can ever recommend a Gill Sans or Perpetua type treatment to a client again, without looking terribly embarassed.
